Hello all,
I've been receiving information about Homecoming slowly in piecemeal, but I've managed to put a few things together for our collective organization.
First, Homecoming festivities will be taking place over two days: Friday, Sep 16 and Saturday, Sep 17, which is gameday against Toronto. There is a steak fry on Friday night, tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Here's where we come in: the Steel Drum band has been requested to play a few tunes as entertainment that evening. Call time will be 6:00, and we'll start playing around 6:30. Alumni of the steel band are welcome to join in! Others are free to come and enjoy the food and friends.
On to Saturday, September 17th: we will have a rehearsal for the Alumni Band at 11am-Noon in the Band Room. We'll go over music for the day and talk about who's buying "The Fish". Please forward this e-mail, post on Facebook, Twitter, etc., rent a plane with a sign on the back, whatever you'd like to do to get more people back for our alumni band. Thanks!
Next, a Mass in Lanman Hall is set for 3:00pm on Saturday, September 17th. This is anticipated to be a highly-attended mass, with the inclusion of the CCHS football team from 1971. The band, like normal, will be playing the Alma Mater at the conclusion of the mass in the back of the hall.
Here's the (potentially) tricky part - the Homecoming parade is set to step off at 5pm. If the mass goes long (which it might), the band will only have a short time to get ready, lined up, and step off. I'm in the process of seeing if we can have a bit more time, but that remains to be seen. Either way, we'll be pressed for time before the parade starts. For the parade, Alumni Band members are requested to drive down to the stadium and meet us there. Our band bus will follow the band in the parade in order to carry other equipment, and act as a safety for the band.
However, once we get to the stadium after the parade, there will be tailgating in the parking lot, where both the Alumni and the Marching Bands will play some tunes together. Start time for pregame is still unclear, as there is a presentation for the '71 football team, but the rest of the evening should go as normal. (And in case you're wondering, our homecoming halftime song is You'll Be In My Heart by Phil Collins... Sorry, Blueberry Hill fans.)
Finally, don't forget the fish fry in the CCHS Cafeteria that evening after the game.
Thank you for your dedication and patience with this new format of homecoming - it is shaping up to be a busy yet enjoyable weekend! Please forward this e-mail to other members of the Alumni band.
